The Karnataka Congress government has recently declared its intention to introduce the Griha Jyoti Yojana Karnataka an innovative initiative that aims to provide free electricity to the state’s citizens.

• On 02-June- 2023 Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the launch of the Home Light Scheme has been made in an effort to improve the living conditions of the residents of Karnataka state.
• According to this scheme, if a citizen uses 200 units of electricity, they are exempted from paying the electricity bill.
• It is worth noting that through this program, on average, every family can save approximately 900-1000 rupees per month.
• As a result, the financial issues of the residents will be addressed along with the provision of electricity.
• Applications for the Karnataka Free Electricity Scheme will be accepted both online and offline.

Aim of Gruha Jyoti Yojana Karnataka 2023

The primary objective of the Gruha Jyothi yojana Karnataka is to enhance the living conditions of the residents. If the electricity consumption of citizens stays within 200 units per month, they will be exempted from paying the electricity bill, resulting in a monthly savings of approximately Rs. 1,000.

The Energy Department expects to receive 5 to 10 lakh applications daily for the Gruha Jyothi scheme. The residents of Karnataka can conveniently register for this scheme online through the Seva Sindhu portal using their laptops, phones, or desktops. Alternatively, they can visit the Bangalore One, Karnataka One, or Grama One Centres to register for the scheme offline.

This scheme aims to support 2.14 crore families in Karnataka State who have an average monthly power consumption of less than 200 units in the past year. Citizens are required to pay their electricity bills for the month of June in July, as the scheme will be implemented from August, applicable to electricity usage in July. When the monthly electricity usage remains below 200 units, citizens will receive a zero electricity bill.

How to get free electricity in Karnataka?

Residents of Karnataka will be entitled to free electricity starting from July as part of the Gruha Jyothi scheme. The Karnataka State government has recently announced that consumers who have an average monthly electricity consumption of less than 200 units (based on the usage in 2022-23) will receive a zero-electricity bill through this scheme.

Under this initiative, the government will provide consumers with an additional 10% of units on top of their previous year’s average consumption. In cases where individuals exceed the average consumption in a particular month but still consume below 200 units, they will only be billed for the difference between their actual consumption and the average.
